Cyclones gear up for conference slate

ISU women host Shoot-Out this weekend in Ames

December 28, 2007
AMES — Three games in three days starts Friday for the Iowa State women’s basketball team Friday as it hosts the Cyclone Shoot-Out.

The Cyclones open with Bowling Green Friday in a matchup of 2007 NCAA tournament teams and follow with Tennessee-Martin Saturday and Hampton Sunday.

Both Iowa State and the Falcons have 8-2 records. The Cyclones are coming off a 69-61 loss at Minnesota last Friday. The Golden Gophers’ 69 points were the most scored by an ISU opponent this season.

Bowling Green went 31-4 last year and advanced to the Sweet 16. The Falcons’ losses this year have come in overtime to Notre Dame and at Indiana.

The Cyclones have won 12 in a row at Hilton Coliseum and 14 straight against non-conference opponents at home.

Iowa State’s Nicky Wieben is second on the Cyclone all-time blocks list with 142. Angie Welle had 155 in her career.

Toccara Ross, the Cyclones’ lone senior, has been lost for the season due to a knee injury suffered in the Minnesota game.
