EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Shannon Novosel’s 3-pointer with 1 minute, 46 seconds left in the game broke open Evansville’s slim lead as the Purple Aces stopped Drake’s six-game winning streak, 62-57, Sunday in Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball.

The Bulldogs (11-5) lost their share of the lead in the MVC as Illinois State (15-1, 5-0) stayed as the last unbeaten team in league play. The loss was the first for Drake since a 58-51 setback against Iowa State on Dec. 9.

The win was Evansville’s third straight.

“We didn’t do a good job of ball security and rebounding the basketball, two critical stats that we have to do well in to be successful on the road,” Drake head coach Amy Stephens said.

Drake’s 19 turnovers was a season high.

Novosel’s 16 points led four Evansville (9-7, 4-2) players in double figures. Robyn Jennings added 15 points, Rebekah Parker had 10 points while Ashley Austin had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Lindsay Whorton paced Drake with 18 points. Jill Martin collected her 31st career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding a season-high five assists.

The Bulldogs return home for Thursday’s MVC match with Bradley set for 7:05 p.m.
