Bobcat boys to face Linn-Mar in state opener

February 28, 2008
By TIMES-REPUBLICAN STAFF
The pairings for the Iowa High School State Boys Basketball Tournament have been released and Marshalltown will be seeing a familiar foe in the opening round.

The Bobcats are the No. 4 seed in the Class 4A field and take a 19-4 record into their opening round matchup with fifth-seeded Linn-Mar (18-4). Tip-off time is scheduled for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Marshalltown met the Lions in their last trip to state in the 2004 opening round at state. Linn-Mar defeated the Bobcats 80-45 on its way to the state title.

While the ninth-ranked Bobcats defeated fourth-ranked Ames 51-50 in Wednesday substate final at Ankeny, sixth-ranked Linn-Mar was a 62-59 winner over Cedar Rapids Jefferson at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.

Marshalltown is making the school’s 24th trip to the state tournament. Linn-Mar — last year’s champion — has been to six state tournaments, including the last five seasons.
