GMG senior guard Kacie Mathern has received all-district basketball honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Mathern averaged a team-high 16 points per game in another record-breaking season for the Wolverines. GMG finished the year with a school-record 20 victories against three losses. The Wolverines also advanced to their first substate final and made their first appearance in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s rankings.

Mathern was joined on the Class 1A Northeast District team by Kayla Waskow and Danielle Graham of Dunkerton. The Raiders were the only team to defeat GMG during the year.

AGWSR placed three on the Class 2A North Central team along with Bruce Dall being named the district coach of the year.

The Cougars advanced to their third consecutive state tournament this winter led by all-district performers in junior Jessica McDowell and seniors Laura Boheman and Meredith Stensland.

McDowell led the team in scoring (14 ppg) and rebounding (8 rpg). Boheman was third on the team in scoring (10 ppg) and was one of the state’s top 3-point shooters with 56 makes. Stensland was a three-year starter for AGWSR that scored 7 points per game from her point guard position.
