A Union child has battled a brain tumor and her family now is fighting to help with a cure.

Jenna Gunderson was diagnosed with a brain tumor January 2007 and her family is organizing a 5K run and walk set for May 10 to raise money for research on Pediatric Low Grade Brain Tumors.

The run will depart from the Community Y in the morning with registration from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.

“I think it will be good for the community and for the cause,” said Jenna’s father Tyse Gunderson.

He said there is little research being done on these types of tumors.

“Whatever we can do to help this and get the research moving we want to do,” he said. “We want to find a cure.”

Tyse calls Jenna “a typical 10 year old” and the next step in her treatment is an MRI in Columbus, Ohio later this month to determine if there is scar tissue or a tumor remaining.

Registration is $10 by April 26 for adults (16 and over) and $9 for (children 15 and under). Costs go up if runners register after April 26.

Registration forms for the run and more information on the event can be found by visiting www.jennaswish.org. For more information on running in the race or becoming a sponsor of the race call Jolece Gunderson at (641) 750-4721.
