Tyler Harris has been through tough times dealing with a brain tumor, surgery and radiation over the past six months.

The community is coming together Saturday to raise money to help ease the financial burden for the family of the 8-year-old Hoglan Elementary School second grade student.

The fundraising dinner and dance will be held at the Moose Lodge at 1516 E. Olive St. A soup and sandwich dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. with music from 7 to 10 p.m. from Major Day and members of Loose Neutral.

Harris has returned to school part time after dealing with surgery in October and radiation treatments that followed.

He still makes trips to Iowa City to help remedy problems as a result of his condition, his mother Tina Eubanks said.

Aside from music and the dinner, Eubanks noted there will be plenty of children’s activities from cookie decorating to artwork.

The night will also include a raffle with several area businesses donating prizes and a bake sale.

Eubanks is thankful all the help she has received to make it a fun night this weekend.

“They have been wonderful,” she said. “I have plenty of people volunteering and donating to the bake sale.”

Tickets are $6 in advance at the Moose Lodge, Hoglan Elementary, McAtee Tire and by calling Eubanks at 641-485-1502. Tickets will be available at the door for $8.
