Marshalltown police were notified Wednesday of the threats of armed robberies at the local McDonald’s as well as those in other parts of the state, but no major disruptions were caused by the hoax.
“The car that’s responsible for that part of town did some checks to make sure everything was OK,” said Marshalltown Police Chief Lon Walker. “We didn’t really have any involvement. We were notified by Ames Police Department that they were in receipt of several phone calls that they thought were a hoax.”
The threats included McDonald’s restaurants in Ames and Boone as well, though nothing came of the reports.
Walker said the police department did not have extensive contact with the authorities in Ames. The message concerning the situation came via a teletype machine.
The calls are currently being investigated by Ames police.
