Records fall as Tigers split in tourney

DES MOINES — Ashley Dille became the all-time leader in three major offensive categories in Marshalltown Community College softball history as the Tigers split a pair of games to close out the Central Iowa Softball Tournament here Sunday.

Marshalltown CC stomped through their first game with a 10-0, five-inning romp over Central CC. Jesse Williams tossed a three-hit shutout and the Tigers backed her with three home runs.

The win was the 26th this season for the Tigers, marking a new school record.

Iowa Lakes scored an 11-5 triumph over MCC in what counted as a conference game despite the tournament setting. The Tigers committed four errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Dille, the Tiger third baseman, went 1-for-3 in both games with a total of five RBIs, sending her to 43 runs driven in this season and 76 for her career. Both totals are new school records.

Dille’s three-run homer in the win over Central CC was the 18th of her career and she scored her 56th career run — both school records.

Home runs by Sara Heeren and Brooke Ellis, both against Central, gave MCC a school record 32 round-trippers this season.

Williams struck out six and walked only one in the win.

A three-run homer by Maribeth Steven in the first inning against Iowa Lakes helped the Tigers to a 4-0 lead, but the Lakers caught up for a 5-5 tie in the second.

A solo run in the fourth and five more in the sixth sent Iowa Lakes to the league win.

Kendra Markle was the hard-luck loser, allowing four earned runs over six innings.

Alyssa Eckerman also homered for MCC, her fourth this season.

The Tigers play a pair of conference games Monday at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge.
