Missy Sharer submitted her letter of resignation to Marshalltown High School, stepping down after six seasons as the head girls’ basketball coach.

Sharer said she turned in her resignation letter on Wednesday, but she is not officially released from the position until the school board has had a chance to meet.

“I’ve taken a new job and I just won’t have the time to coach,” Sharer said. “I’m still going to run my own business but I’ve taken a position with the Animal Rescue League as an office manager and a public relations person.

“Animals have always been a passion of mine, so this is a great opportunity for me.”

Sharer’s career coaching record with the Bobcats was 56-76 (.424), highlighted by a 16-7 campaign in 2004-05.

“It’s hard to walk away from coaching after this many years,” Sharer said. “I’ve enjoyed it a great deal but it’s time for me to move on to a new endeavor.”

The Bobcats finished the 2007-08 season with an 8-13 overall mark.
