The 29th annual Lincoln Highway Bridge Festival is coming to downtown Tama Friday and Saturday.

“It brings a lot of people to the community,” said Carolyn Dolezal, coordinator of the Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce “Everybody is pretty excited.”

Most events — including the music —will be held outside of the Tama Civic Center.

Live musical entertainment highlights Friday night starting at 6 p.m. and will be capped off with the performance by the local Ska band Stanwood Charlie about 9 p.m.

“They are pretty popular around here,” said Sue Carnahan, entertainment coordinator for the festival.

A parade through downtown Tama will be Saturday at 10 a.m. Lee Havlik from Marshalltown who is dubbed a “riverboat entertainer” will play the banjo and tell riverboat stories at 12:15 p.m. Music will pick back up after the parade during the day then will give way to Larry Yazzie, a world champion Meskwaki Fancy Dancer at about 2:30 p.m.

The weekend will have plenty of children’s events including a pedal tractor pull at 2 p.m. Saturday. A carnival will run throughout the day both Friday and Saturday.

Most events — including the music and children’s activities — are free and open to the public.
