CONRAD — The Black Dirt Days festival returned to Conrad and organizers hope it is back for good.

The festival, which returned after a nine-year hiatus, ran Friday and Saturday. Included in the events were a parade, the new library dedication, live music and plenty of children’s activities and games.

“We are going to do this every year and again make it a tradition,” said Jeff Martin, one of the organizers of the festival. “I’ve talked to a lot of people who are really happy that it’s back.”

The library held its official dedication ceremony with an open house.

One of the first people to talk about the hope for a new library in town 10 years ago was former teacher Carol Hoff. Hoff addressed the town at the dedication as her hope is now true.

“My dream, your dream, and our dream has become reality,” she said.

Martin also was excited about the new library boosting Main Street.

“It shows we are on the move,” he said. “It also shows we love our Main Street and we love our downtown.”

Conrad Mayor Gregg Sharp was happy that the community was able to come together and credited the help of the organizers.

“Everybody seems to be participating,” he said.

Fireworks were scheduled for Saturday night but were expected to get pushed back until tonight at 10 p.m. due to rain in the forecast.
