He joins a sister, Hannah, 3. Grandparents are Carl and Mary Jane Kolars of Marshalltown, and Roger and Marcia Etnier of Sheffield. David and Melissa Briggs, of Chicago, Ill., are the parents of a son, Jacob Plager Briggs, born at 6:59 p.m. on May 28, 2008, at Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago, Ill. He weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 22 inches long. Grandparents are Robyn Plager and Bob Plager of St. Louis, Mo., and Kathy and Terry Briggs of Marshalltown.

• On June 18, Wayne Clapsaddle, 300 Edgewood St., reported the theft of a leather jacket, leather chaps, leather gloves and Craftsman wrenches for a motorcycle from 921 N. Third Ave. Estimated value of loss was $420.
• On June 15, an employee with AL L Inc., Iowa Falls, reported BB gun damage to the windshield and two smaller windows on a Dodge Ram pickup while parked at 203 N. 21st St. Apt. #2. Estimated value of damage was $400.

• On June 18, a minivan driven by Christina Lucille Cruz, 1016 E. Anson St., was exiting a private driveway when it collided with a legally parked car. No injuries were reported. Cruz was cited for unsafe backing. Damage to the legally parked car was estimated at $1500 while the Cruz minivan received an estimated $1000 in damage.

• On June 15, Travis Michael Hatch, Gilman, was arrested for criminal mischief, 5th degree.
• On June 14, James Gerald Williams, Laurel, was arrested on three local criminal warrants.
Accidents
• On June 18, a car driven by Brenda Lee Beckham, 914 S. 10th Ave., was travelling east on East Main Street Road near Vine Avenue when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Beckham car was estimated at $3000.
• On June 17, a car driven by Zenna Loraine Faris, Union, was travelling on County Road E-29 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Faris car was estimated at $2020.
• On June 17, a car driven by Shirley Lois Winders, Garwin, was travelling southwest on Highway 30 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Winders car was estimated at $3000.
• On June 17, a car driven by Marilynn Elizabeth Wilkening, State Center, was travelling southwest on Highway 30 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wilkening car was estimated at $3000.
• On June 12, a vehicle driven by Michelle Lynn Huston, 1601 Marion St. Apt. L2, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Huston vehicle was estimated at $1200.
• On June 11, a car driven by Tammy Sue Rash, 109 Byron St., was westbound on Highway 30 attempting to change lanes when due to positioning and the blind spot area on a car it collided with the front of a vehicle driven by Ledimo Jesus Leyva, 505 N. Center St., which was also westbound. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Rash car was estimated at $800 while the Leyva vehicle received an estimated $1000 in damage.
• On June 10, a pickup driven by James Michael Barnes, 2962 Twinkle Hill Rd., was westbound on the Garwin Road when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Barnes pickup was estimated at $5000.
• On June 9, a car driven by Thomas Edwin Burchland, Gilman, was southbound on Highway 14 in a heavy rain and strong wind when it crossed over the center line and collided in a head-on manner with a vehicle driven by William L. Timm, Kellogg, which was northbound. Burchland was transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center and Timm received possible injuries, but was not transported. Burchland was cited for driving on the wrong side of a two lane highway. Damage to the Burchland car was estimated at $3500 while the Timm vehicle received an estimated $2200 in damage.
• On June 9, a vehicle driven by Robert Charles Talbot, New Providence, was southbound on Hart Avenue approaching the intersection with Highway 330 when it entered the intersection and collided with a car driven by Jerry Roger Landt, Melbourne, which was travelling north. No injuries were reported. Talbot was cited for yield sign violation. Damage to the Landt car was estimated at $2000 while the Talbot vehicle received an estimated $3000 in damage.

Associate Court
• On May 27, Loren Dean Hoelscher, 60, Williams, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1250, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge and court costs.
• On May 27, Kimberly Sue Quang, 26, Des Moines, pled guilty to Driving While Revoked. She was ordered to pay a fine of $1000, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 27, Jayni Jean Hirth, 19, Ames, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. She was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. She was ordered to pay a fine of $1250, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge and court costs and ordered to complete a course for drinking drivers.
• On May 27, Amber Crosser, 27, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to False Reports. She was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Hardin County Jail. The sentence was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a term on one year. She was ordered to pay a fine of $315, 32% surcharge, victim restitution, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 20, Thomas Eugene Ball, 18, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree. He was sentenced to serve 30 days in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $625, 32% surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, court costs, court-appointed attorney fees and victim restitution. The fine and surcharge were suspended.
• On May 20, Kiley Allen Thomas, 22, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1250, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge and court costs and to complete a course for drinking drivers.
• On May 20, Charles Boe Scroggins, 29, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Pharmacy Pseudoephedrine Sales Restrictions. He was sentenced to serve one year in the Hardin County Jail. All but 30 days of the sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a period of two years. He was ordered to pay a fine of $315, 32% surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. He was ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow any recommendations of the evaluation.
Scroggins also pled guilty to Theft in the Third Degree. He was sentenced to serve one year in the Hardin County Jail. All but 30 days of the sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a period of two years. He was ordered to pay a fine of $315, 32% surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, court costs, court-appointed attorney fees and victim restitution. He was ordered to complete 50 hours of community service.
• On May 20, Ryan George Minteer, 28, Eldora, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, Second Offense. He was sentenced to serve seven days in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1875, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees and ordered to complete a course for drinking drivers. He was further ordered to complete any recommended treatment outlined in his substance abuse evaluation.
Minteer also pled guilty to Trespass. He was ordered to pay a fine of $315, 32% surcharge, $125 law enforcement surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. He was sentenced to serve one year in the Hardin County Jail. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for two years and ordered to reside at a residential facility and complete substance abuse treatment. Minteer was arrested by the Eldora Police Department on March 14, 2008, following an investigation of an incident on March 10, 2008.
Minteer further appeared on an Application for Revocation of Probation. He admitted violating the terms of his probation and his probation was ordered modified to provide that he reside at a residential facility. He was ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 20, Gary Gene Rummens, 47, Fort Dodge, pled guilty to Driving While Barred. He was sentenced to serve 30 days in the custody of the Hardin County Sheriff. He was ordered to pay a fine of $500, 32% surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. Rummens was arrested by the Iowa Falls Police Department on June 28, 1999, and had been wanted on a warrant for failure to appear.
• On May 20, Jeremy Norton, 24, Aplington, pled guilty to Providing Alcohol to Persons Under Legal Age. He was ordered to pay a fine of $500, 32% surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 13, Cody Michael Deaver, 34, Ames, pled guilty to an amended charge of Assault. He was sentenced to serve 30 days in the Hardin County Jail with all but two days suspended. He was placed on unsupervised probation for a period of one year. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim for a period of five years.
• On May 13, Sara Ann Slagle, 27, Alden, pled guilty to Driving While Barred. She was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. The sentence of confinement was suspended and she was placed on unsupervised probation for a period of one year. She was ordered to pay a fine of $625, 32% surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. The fine and surcharge were suspended.
• On May 6, Donald Dean Hinton, 59, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Public Intoxication, Second Offense. He was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Hardin County Jail. The sentence of confinement was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a term of one year. He was ordered to pay a fine of $315, 32% surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. He was ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow any recommendations outlined in the evaluation.
• On May 6, Justin Paul Brown, 22, Steamboat Rock, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was granted a deferred judgment and placed on unsupervised probation for a term not to exceed one year. He was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $1250 and court costs and to complete a course for drinking drivers.
• On May 6, Brian David Smith, 39, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, Second Offense. He was sentenced to serve seven days in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1875, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharges and court costs and to complete a course for drinking drivers. He was further ordered to complete extended outpatient substance abuse treatment.
• On May 6, Carlos Federico Roque, 59, Cedar Rapids, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $!250, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge and court costs and to complete a course for drinking drivers. He was further ordered to complete extended outpatient substance abuse treatment.
• On May 6, Javerious Tavon Maurice Henderson, 19, Waterloo, appeared on an Application for Revocation of Probation. He admitted violating the terms of his probation. The probation previously granted him was ordered revoked and he was ordered to serve the balance of the original two year sentence imposed. He was ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 6, Benjamin Ray Shupe, 19, Steamboat Rock, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was granted a deferred judgment and placed on unsupervised probation for a term not to exceed one year. He was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $1250 and court costs and to complete a course for drinking drivers.
Shupe also pled guilty to an amended charge of No Driver’s License. He was ordered to pay a fine of $100, 32% surcharge, $5 county surcharge and court costs.
• On May 6, Scott Lee Anway, 47, Alden, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. He was sentenced to serve 48 hours in the Hardin County Jail. He was ordered to pay a fine of $1250, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees and to complete a course for drinking drivers. His driving privileges were ordered revoked for a period of 180 days.
District Court
• On May 5, Megan Jo Sells, 25. Dumont, appeared on an Application for Revocation of Probation. She admitted violating the terms of her probation. Her probation was ordered revoked and she was ordered to serve the original term of confinement of six months in the custody of the Hardin County Sheriff. She was ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
• On May 5, Tyler Wayne Stanbrough, 24. Dows, pled guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree. He was committed to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for an indeterminate term of confinement of not more than five years. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a period of two years. He was ordered to pay a fine of $750, 32% surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharged, victim restitution, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. The fine and 32% surcharge were suspended. He was ordered to provide a DNA specimen for profiling. Stanbrough was arrested by the Iowa Falls Police Department on January 2, 2008, following the investigation of burglary that occurred on November 24, 2006.
• On May 5, Arturo Monge a/k/a Gorge Monge, 33, Ackley, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver greater than 5 grams of Methamphetamine. He was committed to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for an indeterminate term of confinement of 25 years. A mandatory minimum sentence of confinement was imposed for a term of 67 2/3 months. He was ordered to pay a fine of $5000, 32% surcharge, $10 DARE surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, court costs, court-appointed attorney fees and his driver’s license was ordered revoked for a period of 180 days. The fine and 32% surcharge was suspended. He was ordered to provide a DNA specimen for profiling. Monge was arrested by the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office on December 7, 2007.
• On May 5, Zachary Michael Makedonski, 25, Iowa Falls, pled guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree. He was granted a deferred judgment and placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for a period of two years. He was ordered to pay court costs, court-appointed attorney fees, victim restitution and a $750 civil penalty. Makedonski was arrested by the Iowa Falls Police Department on December 18, 2007, following an investigation of burglary that occurred on November 24, 2006.
