DES MOINES - The senior baseball season for Marshalltown High School's Tyler Peschong was prolonged by four games when he was selected to play in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Series July 31-Aug. 3.
The Bobcat first baseman went 5-for-7 with a home run and three RBIs, helping the Large Schools West squad to a runner-up finish in the four-team tournament.
After throttling the Large Schools East team 10-0 in five innings Saturday to go 3-0 through round-robin play, the Large West group fell 3-0 to that same opponent in Sunday's championship game at Principal Park in Des Moines.
Peschong went 2-for-2 in the title bout, collecting two of his team's three hits against West Delaware graduate and Minnesota Twins draftee B.J. Hermsen.
Peschong started the series Thursday with a 2-for-2 day that included a two-run homer and three runs scored in a 10-9 comeback win against Small Schools West at the Dowling Catholic field. He was 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 6-3 victory over Small East on Friday, and he did not bat in the 10-0 rout of Large East on Saturday at Principal Park.
Peschong started in every game for the state runner-up MHS baseball team, which went 27-13 this season. The Southwest Minnesota State University-bound quarterback batted .392 with a team-high eight homers and 40 RBIs.
