Lennox moves some equipment to Mexico

By KEN BLACK, TIMES-REPUBLICAN
POSTED: August 30, 2008

Equipment from the Lennox plant in Marshalltown moved out of the facility as workers were officially laid off earlier this week, the Times-Republican has learned.

Though the recent set of events may have come as a surprise to some, the Times-Republican reported in the middle of June that as many as 150 employees would be laid off. Another 100 layoffs are expected within the next year, the T-R article said.

Some of the equipment leaving is being shipped down to Mexico, said local Lennox workers who alerted the T-R of the machinery being shipped out.

The first wave of job cuts is expected to affect those with up to three years of experience.

Lennox blamed the layoffs on a lackluster housing market.

Lennox opened a plant in Saltillo, Mexico, last year for manufacturing of its Merit brand of home cooling and heating products.

When the greedy Lennox employees settled their new contract several years ago they doomed the Marshalltown plant. Your union led you astray. You have no one to blame but yourselves.

Things like this are one of the reasons we moved away from Marshalltown. They encourage all the Mexicans to move in, and now good jobs are being moved to Mexico. Only in Marshalltown...

Just remember people! The majority of you voted for all these politicians. I don't mean just "King George" either! There is enough back stabbing politicians to go around including some of the DEMONCRATS!

H&ll our own local politicians helped pay the way for Lennox with the local and state grants!!!

Once upon a time, another local company sent jobs and work to Mexico. You know what happened? They had to ship the work back to be redone because the quality of their products went straight to you-know-where. I wouldn't trust a Lennox made in Mexico, so unless it says "made in Marshalltown Iowa", I don't want it. I don't want an air conditioner or furnace that could blow up in my face, so they're really shooting themselves in the foot. I also expect their prices for us to go up since shipping costs are going up, up, UP!

(Do they ever wonder who will be left to buy ANY of their products once all of the jobs have left the country???)

I am sure that Lennox could have rounded up plenty of illegals currently living in Marshalltown that would work for less to keep the plant here. Futhermore this is just another ply by the Republican party to do away with good paying jobs. I bet the CEO of Lennox is a supporter of John McCain.

I agree with Cyklone, let Mexico have the packing plant. Keep Lennox here.
