Equipment from the Lennox plant in Marshalltown moved out of the facility as workers were officially laid off earlier this week, the Times-Republican has learned.
Though the recent set of events may have come as a surprise to some, the Times-Republican reported in the middle of June that as many as 150 employees would be laid off. Another 100 layoffs are expected within the next year, the T-R article said.
Some of the equipment leaving is being shipped down to Mexico, said local Lennox workers who alerted the T-R of the machinery being shipped out.
The first wave of job cuts is expected to affect those with up to three years of experience.
Lennox blamed the layoffs on a lackluster housing market.
Lennox opened a plant in Saltillo, Mexico, last year for manufacturing of its Merit brand of home cooling and heating products.
