Latham pays visit to IVH

Rep. Tom Latham, R-Iowa, told a group assembled at the Iowa Veterans Home they should not worry about where their care will be coming from in the future.
"The VA [Veterans Affairs] will continue to be a number one priority," he said. "If there are cutbacks, they will be elsewhere."
The congressman said his record speaks for itself concerning VA funding. He noted much progress has been made over the last six years to fund the VA system at a level required to provide the best care for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
"We've more than doubled, in the last six years, funding in the VA system," Latham said.
Most questions to the congressman centered not around the VA funding, but about the previous stimulus package that was passed and the possibility of a future stimulus package.
Latham said that there could very well be another economic stimulus bill. However, he said that if another stimulus bill were passed, it would likely not be in the form of a check to taxpayers. Rather, he believed it would focus on infrastructure needs the country has, including such things as roads and bridges.
Also making an appearance with Latham were Republican candidates Jane Jech, running for Iowa House, and Jarret Heil, running for Iowa Senate.
Heil said that if he were elected to state office, the Iowa Veterans Home would be at the top of his priority list.
"It's important that we continue to fund it appropriately so that you continue to have a great place to live," he said.

The one of the few that stood up against the bailout BOTH TIMES! Many thanks Rep. Latham for standing up for what is right.
