Gilman residents ordered to boil water
By ANDREW POTTER, TIMES-REPUBLICANGilman residents underwent a water boil order Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. after repair work by the city on the town's water tower led to a discovery.
"They found a valve leaking," said Gilman City Clerk Helen Reed.
The water was shut off for more than two hours during the day for the repair work. The work revealed the leak and exposing of a water main, which led to the boil order when the water came back on.
"We've had hundreds of calls because the water was turned off," Reed said.
The order calls for the boiling of water one minute for drinking or cooking due to the potential of bacterial contamination.
East Marshall Superintendent Dr. Alan Meyer said the middle school in Gilman prepared for the water shut off and adjusted to the boil order.
"We are using bottled water and sterilizing water as needed," he said. "It's a little inconvenience."
Reed said there are hopes to get the boil order lifted as early as today but could not give a concrete time frame.
