COUNCIL BLUFFS - Jesse Bailey allowed one unearned run over seven innings as Marshalltown Community College was a 6-1 winner over Iowa Western in the second game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday.
Bailey's pitching gem allowed the Tigers to split on the day as the Reivers took the opener 10-4.
Marshalltown also split Friday's twinbill with conference-leading Iowa Western.
The Reivers managed only four hits off Bailey in Saturday's rainy and windy conditions. The MCC sophomore struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The Tigers' Travis Rupert had a two-run pinch-hit double in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Jeremy Rogers also had a double and two RBIs for MCC.
Iowa Western scored seven runs over its final two at-bats to break a 3-all game in the opener.
Luke Putz went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs for the Tigers. Elliot Armstrong finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Marshalltown starter James Coleman took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in five innings. The Tigers outhit the Reivers, nine to eight, but could not overcome committing five errors.
Next up for Marshalltown (18-23, 6-6 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division I) is a matchup Tuesday at Iowa Central. The Tigers return home to host DMACC Wednesday, Iowa Central Thursday and then close out conference play Saturday and Sunday against Muscatine at Shawn Williams Field.
