Greenwood named recipient of Trickey Scholarship

Brett Greenwood of the University of Iowa football team has been chosen as this year's recipient of the Ben Trickey Memorial Scholarship.

The award is named in honor of Trickey, a Marshalltown native that walked on at Iowa and was a three-sport athlete for the Hawkeyes.

Greenwood, who will be in his junior season in the fall, is a two-year letterwinner at free safety for Iowa. The Bettendorf native has started 20 straight games and, as a sophomore, received honorable mention all-Big Ten honors by the league media. He was also named third team all-Big Ten by Phil Steele's College Football.

In 2008, Greenwood finished tied for third on the Hawkeyes with 68 tackles. He also recorded two interceptions and six pass breakups.

The Ben Trickey Memorial Scholarship was created in 1975 and the award is to be used to cover some portion of the entire cost of academic expenses for one year.

The scholarship is awarded to a University of Iowa athlete, in any sport, that has been a walk-on and preference is given to Iowa natives.

The legendary Trickey lettered at Iowa in basketball, football and baseball in the early 1940s after graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1939. After serving his country during World War II, Trickey returned to MHS as a basketball coach and led the Bobcats to the state championship in 1956.
