MASON CITY - A five-goal second half outburst paved the way to a 6-0 victory for the Marshalltown boys' soccer team Thursday night over host Mason City.
The Bobcats (4-6-1) improved to 2-1 in CIML Iowa Conference play while ending its short two-game losing streak on the strength of the season's first shutout victory.
Alec Lovin scored two goals while Oketekyie Dakwa-Agyekum had a goal and two assists in the MHS win.
Lovin scored his team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season to open the second half and give MHS a 3-0 lead. The second goal, with 18 minutes, 33 seconds left to play, was followed up 26 seconds later by Dakwa-Agyekum's fifth tally of the spring for a four-goal advantage.
Cesar Martinez and Mike Harris chalked up their first goals of the season to move the score to its 6-0 final.
Josue Avila's goal, coming off an Ernesto Garcia corner kick, gave the Bobcats the 1-0 lead at the midway point of the first half.
Josh Illum, Eric Nunez and Martinez all added assists for MHS, which hosts Indianola in a 6 p.m. make-up game tonight at Leonard Cole Field.
