A Marshalltown man was arrested on attempted murder and other charges after an alleged shooting less than a block from the Marshalltown police station just after midnight Saturday morning.

Luis Geraldo Ramirez, 27, of Marshalltown, was taken into custody without incident after the shooting, which took place in or near the city parking lot behind the City Centre building, according to reports.

Witnesses say that at least two shots were fired before police arrived.

Police found the victim in the parking lot and he was later airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center. His identity and condition were not being released as of press time.

In addition to attempted murder, Ramirez was also charged with: going armed with intent, intimidation with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm as a felon.
