New printer brings 3-D projects to life at MHS

Students and staff at Marshalltown High School were assisted by Fisher last year on a 3-D design project, where the company printed out their work from a class.
This year there is no need for Fisher's assistance thanks to a new 3-D printer that allows design projects to come to life at MHS.
The modeling design class is taught by Marna Hunnicutt. She said this device her students to learn 21st century skills.
"The printer takes a part they created and puts it in their hands in 3-D," she said.
It allows for their design work on computers to come out in a plastic 3-D figure.
"They get to see what they have built and it is functional," Hunnicutt said. "It gets them better prepared for what they may get into."
Wilson Paul, a sophomore at MHS, was preparing his project Friday.
He said the printer has allowed him to do a more efficient job with his work.
"To see it in 3-D in real life it's easier," he said.
The printer was funded by a technology grant and cost $15,000. It takes about one to three hours to print a project.

Students in other countries do better because they have a family and societal emphasis on education in general, especially Asian cultures. When you get home from school and you are expected to do your homework before anything else and you parentS help you learn outside of the classroom of course you'll end up better than the single mom who doesn't care about your education and blames your teachers for her inaction and lack of motivation. We will never compare to other countries when we continue to blame teachers, schools, and the system for its failings when every wise person can tell you education starts at home. Here's a challenge for all of you - find one college professor who doesn't think parental involvement is the most important aspect in a child's education. I bet you can't do it.

Hate to shock you but we DO outsource teaching. CNN highlighted one recruiter (out of hundreds) that has placed over 1000 foreign teachers in U.S. rural areas. ...please don't project your idiot kid problems on others. My child is fluent in 3 languages, and is years ahead of grade level in math, science, and languages. I'll bet your's still struggle with Dora the Explorer. tsk tsk tsk

GradStudent, it would be good for you to get some REAL world experience. Markets are GLOBAL and anyone who thinks otherwise quickly perishes. Having been involved with international buisness for more than 30 years I can assure you most American businesses DO NOT WANT to go overseas but do so ONLY to survive. The drivers were high taxes, unions, and over regulation. The current and future devaluation of our dollar caused by the reckless/spendthrift Obama administration will dwarf the earlier drivers as companies move abroad enmass to preserve the value of existing assets. I hope your not studying for an MBA or you better ask for a refund.

Thanks Happy. BlackCat you need to use "you're" rather than "your" to correctly libel me. Truth can be found for those "who can handle it"... and facts speak for themselves.
