Thursday night, the police issued a press release making the public aware of an armed robbery that took place Tuesday evening in Marshalltown.
The robbery took place at the I Wireless store, 29 S. First St., when a man walked in displaying a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.
The clerk complied with the request and the gunman left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was described as a male wearing a red hoodie and black coat. He also had on dark pants and was wearing a stocking cap-style mask with yellow lettering at the bottom of it.
This is the second armed robbery in that area in the past month. The Abarrotes Villchuato grocery store at 31 N. First Ave. was hit by a man with a handgun demanding money at the end of October.
"We don't have any reason to believe they are the same person at this time," said Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department.
Police say the delay in making the public aware of the armed robbery came from an abundance of caution and fear that going public with the armed robbery may jeopardize the investigation.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Marshalltown Police Department at 641-754-5725.
