A remarkable season — a remarkable team

November 24, 2009
Times-Republican

It's not often that a community gets to share in the excitement Marshalltown has experienced this fall.

From signs at local businesses, to T-shirts and community-driven send-offs, Marshalltown was alive with enthusiasm and support for the remarkable and historic Bobcat football team.

And when the undefeated Bobcats played in the Class 4A championship of state football playoffs Friday at the UNI-Dome, they made us proud.

While it was a heartbreaking loss to the Iowa City Little Hawks, it was difficult not to think about the amazing accomplishments this team made.

It was a season of incredible feats - a win over West Des Moines Valley, first CIML Iowa Conference championship, the first undefeated 9-0 regular season since 1947 and four playoff wins.

Receiving the Class 4A runner-up trophy is nothing short of remarkable. Hundreds of fans turned out for a welcome home rally for at midnight in an effort to recognize this talented and determined group of young men. Well deserved it was.

While the season has concluded, it's obvious the Bobcats have given us something to be proud of for years to come.

We thank everyone from the players to the coaching staff to the uncompromising fans for making this a year to remember.

We believe in the Bobcats and applaud them for a phenomenal season.
