The search for the next CEO of Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center is nearing its conclusion. The search committee is down to two candidates with day-long interviews planned for each one in the next couple of weeks.
Gregg Sharp, chair of the search committee and a member of the MMSC board of trustees, would not disclose the names of the final candidates due to keeping confidentiality. He said both remaining candidates are executives at hospitals in Iowa.
"Both candidates are outstanding," Sharp said. "Numerous elements of their experience make them a good fit for the community."
Sharp believes the hospital board will make a decision at its Feb. 4 meeting.
"I think the process will be completed by then," he said.
He said no local candidates remain in the running, which rules out MMSC Interim CEO La Rae Schelling, who said recently she applied for the job. Sharp said Schelling has done a good job currently leading the hospital.
Rob Cooper retired as CEO of MMSC at the end of last year citing medical reasons. Cooper spent 19 years at the helm of the hospital.
