AMES - The Marshalltown girls' track and field team came away with five top-10 finishes from the Iowa State Indoor meet Monday at the Lied Recreation Center.
The Bobcats' 1,500-meter runners - Lydia Martin and Sarah Shirar - led the way for MHS. Martin finished as runner-up in a time of 5 minutes, 9 seconds, while Shirar was eighth in a time of 5:24.
Jordan Loney nabbed a fifth-place finish in the high jump competition by clearing 5 feet.
The Bobcats' 4x800-meter relay team of Shirar, Martin, Lynsey Bruns and Madison Wynes was eighth with a combined time of 10:39, while Brie Pettigrew threw the shot put 32-11 for ninth place.
"A good start for our kids in the first competition of our season," said MHS head coach Chad Pietig. "The girls competed hard in all phases of the meet, which resulted in several top-10 performances.
"We really could not be happier with their efforts at this point in the season."
The Bobcats are slated to go to Pella on Saturday for the Central College Indoor.
