The transformation Riley Miller has made in the third grade class of Julie Trickett at Fisher Elementary School has made his teacher proud and fostered a love of school for the student.
At the beginning of the school year last fall, Miller would shy away from reading out loud and didn't think he was very good at. Now, he begs to read aloud in class and looks forward to school.
"I know that I can learn now," Miller said.
Trickett said Miller, 9, would stay in class while his fellow students played at recess and spent extra time after school working on his reading.
"It's been a lot of hard work and his attitude has changed," Trickett said. "I'm very proud of him for how far he's come throughout the school year."
Miller now has a favorite set of books - The Bailey School Kids - which features a group of third graders who solve mysteries.
"It's fun to try and solve them," he said.
