Fisher Controls gets OK for extended enterprise zone

August 24, 2010

With a light agenda on tap for Monday's meeting of the Marshalltown City Council, various items were unanimously approved, including one pertaining to Fisher Controls.

An OK was given for the company, along with Iowa's Department of Economic Development, to pursue an agreement toward advancing enterprise zone status.

An enterprising category helps businesses or housing developments gain economic utilization, by way of state benefits, in various locations which can make them more competitive with other regions.

"This is an amendment to extend their contract for an additional two years," said Michelle Spohnheimer, director of Housing and Community Development.

In other action, council members approved a resolution for police traffic services between the city and Department Of Public Safety/Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau, as the contract will begin on Oct. 1 and continue through Sept. 30, 2011.

The city also accepted a resolution approving the contract for tobacco enforcement services with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division. That agreement take effect Oct. 1 through March 15, 2011.

Lastly, council held its third and final reading to establish a new location for handicap parking spaces - 30-minute and three-hour parking - near the City Hall complex and the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
