Marshalltown man sentenced for Iowa City home invasion

August 28, 2010

A Marshalltown man was sentenced to 180 days in jail earlier this week for his part in a home invasion in Iowa City April 12.

Randon Hill, 20, will serve the sentence for the crime of riot. He was offered a deferred judgment on a charge of second-degree burglary.

The riot charge is an aggravated misdemeanor. The burglary charge is a Class D felony.

Police in Iowa City say victims were awakened from their sleep just after 3 a.m. on that April night when their sliding glass door was smashed open. Four individuals entered the residence.

A black male wearing a hockey mask told the victims to lay face down on the floor in a bedroom while the four individuals proceeded to take items from the home which included a plasma television and Playstation 3.

One individual said he had a gun, police said.

Iowa City police say Hill was a former roommate of one of the victims. After being evicted from a residence they shared in Cedar Rapids, one of the victims claimed Hill never returned for his property.

The victim eventually moved and took Hill's property with him.

According to the police report, Hill told officers he requested four individuals go to the new residence of the victim and retrieve the property by threats and intimidation.
