They did it again. Those committee members and volunteers that bring us "Iowa's Best Family Fall Festival" lived up to the name last weekend.
Four days of fun, a plethora of activity and events meant we were again treated to an amazingly well orchestrated Oktemberfest.
We applaud the Oktemberfest committee for a fantastic job.
Meanwhile, participants in the events have earned a pat on the back as well. From the kids who encountered a soggy start at Kids Night, to the folks who didn't mind pulling out an umbrella to view the parade - or pull on a parka to participate in it.
Oktemberfest has without a doubt become a weekend Marshalltown can be proud of. There are traditions, like the spaghetti dinner and pancake breakfast at the Coliseum and staples like Prairie Heritage Day, the Classic Car Show and the BBQ & Chili Cook-Off that have provided us with special memories we can share with friends and families.
This year, Diamond Sponsor of Oktemberfest Emerson Process Management - Fisher Controls, gave us a special treat.
As part of its 130th anniversary, Fisher brought us The Beatles - in form of cover group "The Return."
The concert couldn't have been more fitting for a family atmosphere. Hits some remember from the Ed Sullivan show, were songs children not only recognized, but embraced, while dancing in the Courthouse lawn.
Meanwhile, Fisher opened its doors for a public tour of its Innovation Center on Saturday - a generous tour that helped all of the curious understand the inter-workings of the flow lab.
With so many activities we can't begin to mention everyone who made Oktemberfest special. It was a great year, with dedicated volunteers and a true privilege for the Times-Republican to provide coverage of 'Innovation at Work.'
