The Covered Arena on the Central Iowa Fairgrounds will be the place to be Saturday as indoor dirt racing returns to Marshalltown.

Promoter Brian Kauffman has scheduled a busy day of races for go-carts, quads and small motorcycles from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person and include a pit pass. Children under age seven are admitted free-of-charge.

Shown in this undated photo are quads or four-wheelers. Similar vehicles are scheduled to race Saturday at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. Flat, dirt-track motorcycle races are on the card as well.

According to flattrack.com, hot laps begin at noon. Heat races are next, followed by featured races.

"We are running a mixed group of racers at this point to let the spectators have a variety of racing action," Kauffman said.

He clarified a question about how pit areas will be divided up.

Fact Box

IF YOU GO

WHAT: "Four Wheeler" Thunder Dome Indoor Dirt Racing

WHERE: Central Iowa Fairground's Covered Arena Building, 1308 E. Olive St. Marshalltown

WHEN: Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

WHO: Sponsored by Brian Kauffman

"Regarding the pitting situation, the bikes and quads will have their own pit area away from the carts," he said.

He also addressed questions about track width and length.

"The straight-aways are 25' wide and at least 110' long," Kauffman said. "We will extend the bike and quad track so there is less of a chance of tearing up the same track the carts race on."

Fairgrounds board member Perry Moore of Marshalltown commented on the carting agenda.

"There will be different classes of go-cart racing from kids up to adults to professionals and so on," he said. "We did this ten years ago with Gordie Johnson and it was fairly successful. This time we have a new promoter - very energetic.

Interest in the event appears to be strong.

"We have thousands of hits on the Internet already. We have our portable bleachers set up so there will be plenty of seating and there will be full concessions."

Kauffman said he has sponsored similar events in the Waterloo area and is looking forward to promoting successful events here.

More races are scheduled Nov. 20, Dec. 11, Jan. 8, Jan. 29, Feb. 12, Feb. 26 and March 5.
