Going the extra mile

Student focuses more time on learning

December 20, 2010

Some students shy away from extra school work but Hoglan Elementary School student Emmett Bauder dives right in.

"He goes above and beyond and gets extra tutoring to help him excel," said Anna Wolvers, special education teacher at Hoglan. "Things that come naturally for other people he has to work twice as hard at but doesn't complain."

Due to the extra time, Wolvers said Bauder has made significant progress in his three goal areas of reading, writing and math.

When Bauder learns what he needs to he is also wiling to assist his fellow students.

"It's nice to help others," Bauder said.

The 10-year-old said he loves playing sports and also cheering on the Marshalltown Bobcat varsity teams in football and basketball.
