Semi crashes close I-35 north of Des Moines

January 11, 2011

DES MOINES - Southbound lanes on Interstate 35 north of Des Moines remain closed because of an accident involving multiple vehicles, including four semitrailers.

The accident happened about 15 miles north of Des Moines. Northbound traffic was also closed because of a different accident but has since reopened.

The Iowa State Patrol says southbound lanes remain closed because of the crash involving four semis and at least two other vehicles. The patrol says only one minor injury has been reported.

The Iowa DOT is reporting that many roads in the area are completely snow and ice covered.

Increasing winds and falling temperatures are expected to contribute to hazardous travel conditions.
