Good behavior pays off at Franklin

Students rewarded with special assembly

In celebration of some strides made in behavior, Franklin Elementary School students were able to get some laughs Monday at the expense of their teachers and principal.

The school held a special assembly that had teachers competing against each other in the style of the NBC television show "Minute to Win It."

Staff flung rubber chickens through hula hoops, tried to get smaller noodles on one long noodle using their mouths and played a game where they tried to get ping pong balls out of box of facial tissue attached to their backs.

Franklin Principal Tim Holmgren participated in the ping pong ball game and was able to shake all of his ping pong balls out of the box first.

Holmgren is no stranger to having a little fun to reward the students as last year he colored his hair to celebrate the money that was raised for cancer research.

"The kids need to know that we are here to learn but that we can have fun doing that," Holmgren said.

Franklin Counselor Karen Mussig said behavior issues have been down this year, which was a reason the special assembly was held.

"We are doing much better than in the past with behavior and we wanted to do something to celebrate that," Mussig said. "The students have made good choices."

Holmgren is happy with how the year has gone at Franklin.

"It's going well," he said. "We've had a good year."
