AMES - Cassidy Blackford drove in the game-winning run in game one and then added two hits in the nightcap as the Marshalltown softball team ended a five-game losing streak by sweeping Ames, 1-0 and 11-3, in CIML Iowa Conference play.

The Bobcats (13-9, 6-6) pulled back to even in league play after getting strong pitching performances in both games. Lauren Mazour struck out seven and walked one in a six-hit shutout to win game one. Taylor Vaske struck out eight and did not walk a batter, also allowing six hits in picking up the victory in game two.

Taylor Wagner had two hits to lead MHS in the opener, while Blackford's single drove in the game's only run in the top of the seventh inning.

A six-run sixth inning in the nightcap helped the Bobcats pull away from a 4-2 lead, providing Vaske with 14 hits worth of support.

Quinn Goodman had three hits and two RBIs to lead MHS. Whitney Sowers, Emily DeVenney, Mazour and Blackford each had a double and a single, with Mazour and Sowers driving in two runs apiece. DeVenney had an RBI while Sowers had a double and three runs driven in.

The Bobcats also rolled to a 10-0 win in the junior varsity contest. Kelsey Mead struck out three and walked one for the victory in the circle.
