HUDSON - The West Marshall softball team closed out its regular season in convincing fashion, scoring 10 runs in the second inning en route to a 14-2, six-inning stomping of Hudson in Tuesday's cross-NICL action.

The Trojans (24-7) sent 15 batters to the plate in the second, responding in a big way to Hudson's two-run first. The host Pirates, with just three hits, never scored again.

West Marshall rapped out 15 hits in the win, getting at least one single from each spot in the batting order. Taylor Weyer went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the attack. Krista Milder was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI, McKenna Hotopp was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, winning pitcher Alexa Hotopp was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Courtney Porter was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Ashley Brandt's lone hit was an RBI triple, while Jamie Vis added a two-run double.

West Marshall now waits to find out its opponent for the second round of Class 2A Region 6 play, as the Trojans will host Thursday's winner between CMB and Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday night at 7 p.m. in State Center.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 8, Union 0

GLADBROOK - Paige Thompson tossed a six-hitter, striking out seven and walking none as Gladbrook-Reinbeck rolled into the postseason with an 8-0 victory over La Porte City Union.

The Rebels (18-12) won eight of their last 10 regular season contests and will host CMB in Thursday's opening round of Class 2A Region 6 play at 7 p.m. in Gladbrook.

Taylor Flamme and Emily Snider both went 2-for-3 with a double, while Carrie Shouse was 2-for-2 with two RBIs to pace the G-R offense. Sonya Beichley went 2-for-4 as well.

East Marshall 7, Aplington-Parkersburg 1

LE GRAND - The East Marshall softball team endured upstart Aplington-Parkersburg's challeneges and took a cross-NICL contest from the visiting Falcons, 7-1, on Tuesday night.

Haley Long struck out nine and walked four in the win, helping the Mustangs move to 23-8 overall.

Alyssa Whitmore, Paige Miller and Chelsea Whitmore had two hits apiece, and Karly Long added a double. Chelsea Whitmore drove in three runs for East Marshall, which hosts Grinnell tonight to close out the regular season. The Mustangs' Class 2A Region 6 opener will be Friday at home against the winner between A-P and South Hardin.

Jesup 9, BCLUW 4

JESUP - Kelsey Lough's sixth-inning grand slam put Jesup out of BCLUW's reach in a cross-NICL contest on Tuesday night.

The J-Hawks (26-13) led 5-3 before Lough lifted them to a six-run lead. BCLUW (20-16) scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the loss.

Nicolette Simpson took the loss in the circle for the Comets. Courtney Amundson had a single and a double to lead the BCLUW bats, while Sarah McCoy also doubled.

BCLUW kicks off Class 1A Region 4 play tonight at Brooklyn, facing Meskwaki in a 6 p.m. contest. The winner will face either GMG or BGM, tonight's second game in Brooklyn, in a 7 p.m. showdown Friday in Conrad.
