Summer seems to be the time to tour across Iowa and one more touring event is looking to get in before fall hits.

The Lincoln Highway Tour car cruise is making its way to the area Saturday as part of an event that spans the state over three days.

Jeff LaFollette, director of the tour who is from Davenport, said the tour is a way to promote historic sites and tourism in Iowa.

"It's a good way to see the history of the highway," LaFollette said.

The tour will make a 9:15 a.m. stop in Colo, a 10:15 a.m. stop in downtown State Center, an 11:30 a.m. stop at the city park in Le Grand and will stop at the Lincoln Highway Bridge in Tama at 1:30 p.m. and John Ernest Vineyard at 2:15 p.m.

The public is welcome to stop by and talk with the visitors who enjoy talking about their cars and the tour. The tour includes several classic cars and will feature a couple of Model A cars and a 1935 Ford.

"There will be some classic Mustang convertibles from the 1960s too," LaFollette said. "It's basically a little bit of everything."

In between the route stops the tour will follow the old Lincoln Highway route.

"We'll follow the old route as much as possible," LaFollette said. "If something is historical to Lincoln Highway we'll tour that."

The tour, which had more than 50 cars registered as of earlier this week, starts in Denison Friday and ends in DeWitt Sunday.
