Mention the name Cody Freese to staff at Marshalltown High School and they just smile.
The senior student has that type of impact on everybody he meets at the school.
Freese, who faces challenges and is non-verbal, is a friend to everyone he meets it seems.
"He has a very kind personality," said Molly Ferrin, special education teacher at MHS. "He also has a great sense of humor."
Freese communicates with people through a special device which allows him to tell the staff key things. He also can read lips, since he is hearing impaired.
When he isn't learning, Freese is very helpful in the cafeteria cleaning up after breakfast and lunch. He started helping out last year and has continued this school year.
"He took it upon himself to stay and help us pick up the trash and clean the tables," said Cindy Mayer, coordinator of the study hall in the cafeteria. "He is a great example of good citizenship and MHS pride. Everybody loves Cody."
