Curtis Dean Ohrt was born on August 19, 1939 in Tama County. He was the son of Harry James and Viola (Sonkens) Ohrt. He attended school in the Gladbrook schools graduating with the class of 1957. Curt then served our country honorably in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960. On October 22, 1960 Curt was united in marriage to Karen Shemenski in Martins Ferry, Ohio. They have lived in rural Gladbrook for nearly 51 years on the family farm operated by Curt. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Iowa Pork Producers, Jaycees, Town and Country Builders Association and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, fishing, camping, motorcycling, metal lathe work, remodeling - especially helping to build the Gladbrook City Center, and he could fix almost anything. He was very mechanically inclined, but most of all he loved to farm. He loved all of his grandchildren and enjoyed having them on the farm. Curt will be remembered for his sense of humor, willingness to help others, and loyalty to his wife, family and friends.
