Drew Michael Ferneau, 2449B Reed Ave., made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated charge and a no valid driver's license charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 28. Ferneau was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Cara Sue Jackson, 510 Bromley St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Ambria Price, 508 N. 2nd St., made an initial appearance on a providing alcohol to minors charge. A judgment was set aside. Price is scheduled for an initial appearance on Nov. 21.

Ryan Chaplin, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a batterer's education program contempt charge and a parole violation charge. The court appointed Thomas Hillers to represent Chaplin in these matters. The Contempt Hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 21. The Parole Revocation Hearing will be set by the Department of Correctional Services as their calendar permits. Bond is set at $26,000 cash only.

Teresa Dawn Richardson, of Newton, made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 due immediately plus restitution if applicable.

Jedidiah Smith, of Garwin, made an initial appearance on a violation of Pre-Trial Release charge and a failure to appear for a Probation Revocation Hearing charge. The previous appointment of Darrell Meyer will continue. The Sentencing and Probation Violation Hearing is rescheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Dec. 7 in District Associate Court. Bond is set at $12,000 cash only.

Curtis Koesters, of South Sioux City, Neb., made an initial appearance on a absence from custody charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 18. Bond is set at $6,000 cash or surety.

Julio Gomez-Hernandez, 206 N. 8th Ave., made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, second offense charge and a failure to yield charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 28. Gomez-Hernandez was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Derek Tompkins, 402 E. Boone St. Apt. #3, made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 28. Tompkins was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Shannon Annett Arant, 1001 S. Center St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Zam Deih Lai, 308 E. Boone St. Apt. #6, made an initial appearance on a striking an unattended vehicle/failure to provide information charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Barbara Bereczki, of Gladbrook, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, second offense charge, a no insurance charge, a no driver's license charge and improper use of lane charge. She will hire her own attorney. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 23. Bond will remain as posted. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.
