Employee takes $200 in groceries

A Hy-Vee employee who allegedly helped herself to a shopping cart full of groceries was arrested Wednesday.

According to police reports, Jadrienne Gilliland, 23, selected and bagged nearly $200 worth of groceries and left the store, 802 S. Center St., without paying for them. The incident occurred at about 3 p.m.

Gilliland was charged with fifth-degree theft.

Thursday

Kenneth LeRoy Taggs Jr., address unknown, made an initial appearance on a failure to stop within a sure and clear distance charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due within 30 days.

Jon Brones, of Melbourne, made an initial appearance on a failure to stop within a assured, clear distance charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 21. Brones was released on his own recognizance.

Olaf Beckmann, of Cook, Minn., made an initial appearance through attorney John Haney on a fraudulent practice, first degree. The Preliminary Hearing was waived. Bond will continue as posted.

Gilbert Strait Jr., of Eldora, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Feb. 17 until the debt is completed.

On Wednesday an employee with Hy-Vee, 802 S. Center St., reported the theft of a shopping cart full of groceries in the amount of $198.87.

On Tuesday Barbara Elaine Mohr, 2641 275th St., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $160 while at 707 Swayze St.

Citations

On Wednesday a juvenile was cited for trespass and disorderly conduct at the Learning Academy.

On Wednesday Jadrienne Lou Gilliana, 1509 Marion St., was cited for theft, fifth degree from Hy-Vee.

Arrests

On Wednesday Ernesto Garcia, 510 Sharon Ave., was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, operating while intoxicated, possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance (marijuana) and driving while barred.

Accidents

On Tuesday a pickup driven by Krista Ray Flowers, 212 N. 10th St., was moving vehicles in the driveway when it collided with a car that had pulled partially into the drive to pick up a passenger. No injuries were reported. Damage to the car was estimated at $1,500.

On Tuesday a car driven by Gregory S. Duly, of Canton, Ohio, was westbound on Main Street looking for a business when it went through a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Lizette Arriaga-Victor, 1501 Laurel Dr., which was traveling north through the intersection. No injuries were reported. Duly was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to the Duly car was estimated at $2,000 while the Arriaga-Victor vehicle received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On Tuesday a minivan driven by Jolene Marie Sager, 2320 S. 5th Ave., was exiting the driveway at her residence and when it got to the street and Sager applied the brakes to check for traffic it slid into the side of a garage truck driven by Michael Joseph Fleck, 202 1/2 N. 12th St. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Sager minivan was estimated at $2,000.

On Dec. 25, 2011, Neil Douglas McCubbin, 1528 Prairie Ave., reported damage to a building at his residence and the theft of a Mossburg 500 firearm. Estimated value of loss was $1,000.

Arrests

On Sunday Jody Rae State, 203 N. 2nd St., was arrested for theft, fourth degree.

On Saturday Timothy John Wood, of Osceola, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

On Saturday Jean Elizabeth Wood, of Osceola, was arrested for violation of Pre-Trial release, criminal mischief, fifth degree and disorderly conduct.

On Jan. 10 Travis Lee Gummert, 307 Sharon Ave. Apt. #4, was arrested for violation of probation.

On Jan. 10 Carolyn Elizabeth Condit, 2322 W. Main St. Rd., was arrested for driving while revoked, driving under suspension and failure to have a valid driver's license.

On Jan. 9 Jose Armando Vincente-Manzo, of Waterloo, was arrested for violation of Pre-Trial release.

On Jan. 9 Jorge Oscar Sanchez-Vazquez, 1007 1/2 W. Church St., was arrested for failure to serve jail sentence and taken to jail to serve a two day sentence.

On Dec. 29, 2011, Rita Janelle Papakee, of Tama, was arrested for failure to appear.

Accidents

On Monday a car driven by Elaine Henrietta Vry, 1715 S. 5th St., was southbound on Reed Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Vry car was estimated at $4,000.
