Chris Buffington and Darci Wolf, of Marshalltown, are the parents of a son, Jayse Michael Buffington, born on Jan. 16 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Welcoming Jayse home is big brother, Gavin. Grandparents are Thelma Armbrecht, Jim and Kim Wolf, Richard and Ardis Wolf, Jerry and Anita Pack, Brett and Anita Buffington, the late David Buffington, Pat Buffington, Faith Brown and Angel Blackford.

On Thursday Jose Arevalo-Veliz, 809 S. 3rd Ave., reported damage to the rear window and left rear window; the rear window; the rear window and left rear window and the left front window on a 2003 Hyundai Accent, a 2000 Toyota Ocho, a 2008 Toyota Yaris and a 2001 Mazda Protege all while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $350, $200, $350 and $200, respectively.
On Monday Ashley Gartin, 1810 W. State St., reported hit and run damage to both driver's side doors on a 2009 Pontiac Vibe while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $2,000.
On Thursday Jennifer Elaine Lawler, 2601 Fremont St., was cited for theft, fifth degree from Wal-Mart.
On Wednesday a juvenile from Haverhill was cited for criminal mischief, fifth degree.
On Wednesday a juvenile from Marshalltown was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Thursday Todd Allen Fisher, 1509 W. State St., was arrested for driving while barred.
On Jan. 24, Jarvas K. Mitchell, of Chicago, Ill., was arrested for driving without the owner's consent and three counts of assault while in the commission of a felony.
On Dec. 5, 2011, Jarvas K. Mitchell, of Chicago, Ill., was arrested for robbery, first degree and assault while in the commission of a felony.
On Friday a vehicle driven by Margaret Annette Davis, 2107 Iowa Ave. W, was westbound on Lincolnway when it hit patch of black ice, went out of control and entered the south ditch striking a tree. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Davis vehicle was estimated at $3,000.
On Thursday an as yet unknown driver driving a brown vehicle was northbound in the 10 block of 19th Street when it sideswiped a legally parked car and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the legally parked car was estimated at $2,000.
On Thursday a car driven by Matthew Anthony Leavy, 306 N. 15th Ave., was northbound on 12th Avenue when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Linda Louise Hinmon, 2210 Dubois Circle, which was slowing to turn into a driveway. No injuries were reported. Leavy was cited for failure to stop within a sure and clear distance. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.
Marshall County Courthouse
Ignacio Lara-Valencia, of State Center, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 13. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.
Derrick Christianson, c/o Marshalltown Residential Facility, made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. The court appointed Darrell Meyer to represent him in this case. The Parole Revocation Hearing will be scheduled by the Department of Correctional Services as their calendar permits. No bond was allowed in this case.
Steven M. Johnson, 412 S. 3rd St. Apt. #3, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for arraignment charge. The Public Defender's Office which was previously appointed will continue with this case. The Arraignment Hearing is rescheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 14. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.
Kayla Opper, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a drug charges/violation of pre-trial release charge and a unauthorized use of a credit card/violation of pre-trial release charge. The previously appointed Public Defender's Office will continue with these cases. Trial on the unauthorized use of credit cards is scheduled for March 1 in Associate Court. The Trial on the drug charges is scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 20 in District Court. Bond is set at $12,000 cash or surety.
