PLEASANTVILLE - West Marshall won its Class 1A sectional wrestling meet on Saturday to earn a spot in the regional duals.
The Trojans also will send 10 wrestlers on to next Saturday's district competition after having six champions and four runner-up finishers.
West Marshall racked up 241 points to outdistance Tri-County/Montezuma (203.5) for top team honors.
Winning sectional titles for the Trojans were Sam Schelling (120 pounds), Chad Berrey (126), Michael Hemesath (138), Tanner Arnold (152), Tanner Stalzer (160) and Brandon Overman (182). Placing second were Nathan Bradley (113), Dale Hilleman (145), Jacob Edler (195) and Lucas Ohrt (285).
In Tuesday's regional duals, West Marshall faces Interstate 35 in Truro. The winner of that faces the winner of Martensdale-St. Marys against Tri-County/Montezuma with a spot in the state duals on the line.
The district individual tournament next Saturday is at Eddyville.
AGWSR was third in its sectional meet at Garner-Hayfield. The Cougars had five district qualifiers, each finishing second - Miguel Reyes (119), Collin DeBerg (130), Cody Williams (145), Sam Petersen (152) and Austin Williams (160).
CLASS 2A
TAMA - Each of host South Tama's three district qualifers were champions on Saturday during Class 2A sectional wrestling action.
East Marshall captured six district spots, while BCLUW will be sending one on to Monroe next Saturday.
Bondurant-Farrar was the team champion with 210 points. Second through fifth was tightly packed with Grinnell (197), PCM (185), South Tama (175.5) and EM/GMG (175). SH-BCLUW finished sixth (97).
Levi Kaufman (138), Tyler Walz (152) and Erik Lux (160) each took top honors for the STC Trojans. Walz, who is ranked fourth in the state, defeated EM/GMG's third-ranked Blake Meling, 4-3, in the championship.
The Mustangs of EM/GMG had two champions and four runner-up showings. Nate Dixon (145) and Jay Reisetter (170) took first at that respective weights. Both of Reisetter's wins were by pin. Taking second were Zach Underhill (103), Clayton Aman (113), Justin Aman (120) and Meling (152).
Kaleb Luse of SH-BCLUW, who recently registered his 100th career victory, was the champion at 120.
In Saturday's sectional in La Porte City, GRNT/GC had three second-place showings - Ethan Erhardt (113), Nick Whannel (195) and Blade Bradley (285).
Denver-Tripoli was the team champion and had seven sectional champions. Union was second.
