Man jailed for serious assault

Police have arrested Zachary Lenear Simpson, 41 for serious assault.

Marshalltown police arrived on scene 1:30 a.m. Sunday at 106 N. 6th Ave. where a dispute between Simpson and his 16-year old daughter allegedly erupted into violence.

Simpson allegedly beat his daughter with his fists and belt before police arrived, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department.

Police arrested Simpson and jailed him for serious assault, a serious misdemeanor, following the incident.

Hanken said that police contacted the Department of Human Services who will conduct an investigation parallel to the MPD's.

Shannon W. Gard, 306 Wakefield Dr., made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 6.

Lavotius Ross, 511 S. 7th Ave., made an initial appearance on a operating without registration charge and a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded not guilty to the operation without registration charge and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on March 6. He pleaded guilty to the other charge and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Cristina Sandoval, 308 N. 3rd Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Jacob Rowley, of Grundy Center, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Marlene Morgan, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a no insurance charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $250 each with a $87.50 surcharge on each and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 each due immediately.

Maria Llera, of Toledo, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court charge for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Shane Dean Rose, 2008 Blossom Lane, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 16. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Joey Edward Lutes, 2467 Jefferson Dr., made an initial appearance on a possession with the intent to deliver marijuana charge, a tax stamp violation charge and a prohibited acts charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 24. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety, as posted.

The court ordered that Lutes obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 90 days.

John Charles Gavagan, 206 S. 7th Ave., made an initial appearance on a harassment, second degree charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 24. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety, as posted. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Jason Lee Jefferson, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, second offense charge, a driving under suspension charge and a open container charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 24. Jefferson was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them within 72 hours. The court ordered that Jefferson complete a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 90 days.

Jessie Thill, of Melbourne, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 24. Thill was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that Thill obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 90 days.

Bethany Brant, 1401 S. 17th Ave., made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her case. The Scheduling Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 13. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

Rose Perales, 305 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and failure to secure a child charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs plus $27 for a total of $424.50 due immediately. The fine on the failure to secure a child charge was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195 due immediately.

James Roberts, 1401 S. 17th Ave., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Incidents

On Monday, Chelsea Anne Kerr, of Laurel, reported damage to the passenger side rear window on a 2010 Dodge Charger while parked at 809 Bromley St., and the theft of two Rockford Fosgate subwoofers, a Pioneer amplifier and ladies Nike running shoes. Estimated value of loss was $520.

On Saturday, Richard Stanley Gustin, 310 N. 15th Ave., reported damage to two triple paned windows and aluminum siding at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $650.

On Jan. 30, Katharine Castro, 106 S. 5th St., reported damage to the rear window on a vehicle; the rear door dented and paint chipped on a vehicle; and damage to the front driver's side windows on: a Dodge Stratus, a Oldsmobile Delta, a Nissan Quest, a Chevy Malibu, a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Pontiac Grand Am, all while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $930.
