Local resident charged with forgery
A Mexico native charged late last year with two counts of assault could now be deported if convicted on six counts of forgery.
Police claim the man, Javier Juarez-Corona, 34, who lives at 106 1/2 W. Church St., possessed two phony social security cards and four state identification cards for two aliases, according to police reports.
Juarez-Corona was originally arrested and charged for aggravated assault, aggravated domestic assault and three counts of child endangerment on New Year's Eve 2011 when he allegedly attempted to stab his wife and her stepfather in the presence of his children.
During follow up interviews police obtained information that lead to the confiscation of the bogus Nebraska, Florida and Texas IDs and social security cards.
Juarez-Corona made his initial appearance Thursday morning where he was issued a public defender and is being held on a $5,000, cash-only bond. Each of the forgery charges could be handled as an independent charge or the county attorney could opt to lump the six Class D felonies together.
Because of the social security cards, there is a possibility of involvement on a federal level, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department.
Juarez-Corona's preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Feb. 27. If convicted, he could face deportation.
