Local man charged with intent to distribute

Police have charged a 23-year-old Marshalltown man with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The Marshalltown man, Russell Gentry Jr., was caught driving on a suspended license Friday night when an officer, who knew Gentry Jr. didn't have a valid driver's license, spotted him and followed him to the Jiffy convenience store, 111 S. Third Ave.

Upon an inspection of the car, the officer found 46 grams of marijuana divided among three bags. Because of the way the marijuana was packaged and its amount, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department, Gentry Jr. is being charged with intent to distribute - a Class D felony.
