Underage party at MCC busted
A party early Friday morning at Marshalltown Community College ended with the dorm resident being cited under the city's social host ordinance and one of his 12 party-goers getting arrested.
Police arrested Kyle Simpson, 19, of Des Moines for providing alcohol to minors, a simple misdemeanor, and Bryce Manning, 20, of Ankeny, for being uncooperative while police broke up the party, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department.
Eleven other underage drinkers, ages 18 to 20, were also cited for possession of alcohol underage, simple misdemeanors, in connection with the dorm party.
Local man, mother arrested
What began as a brotherly squabble ballooned into felony charges Friday evening.
Luis Corral, 18, allegedly punched his brother in the body several times when the 13-year-old refused to accompany him to a neighbor's house, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department.
Corral is charged with child endangerment with injury, a Class D felony.
The victim called police then went to a neighbor's house, Hanken said. The boys' mother, Guadalupe Palcious-Vargas, 36, was not home at the time of the incident.
But by time police arrived at the 11th Avenue home and began arresting her son, Hanken said, Palicious-Vargas had come home and attempted to prevent them. Police then arrested Palcious-Vargas, charging her with interference with official acts.
The victim did not need medical attention, Hanken said. Police contacted the Department of Human Services and placed the boy with the neighbor for the time being.
