MHS boys track wins five events at Hi Covey

AMES - Two individual titles and three championship performances in the relay events highlighted the day for the Marshalltown boys' track and field team at the Hi Covey Relays on Saturday.

Tad Steffensen was the winner of the 100-meter dash in 11.02 seconds to go with running on each of the Bobcats' winning relays.

Marshalltown won each the 4x100 (Ty Steffensen, Jordan Dean, Kyle Carnahan and Tad Steffensen, 43.73), 4x200 (Ty Steffensen, Tad Steffensen, Dean and Austin Hauser, 1:30.51) and 1,600-meter medley (Ty Steffensen, Tad Steffensen, Dean and Hauser, 3:34.71).

Marshalltown took the top two spots in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 10 inches as Pierce Kelly was first and Brady Arment second. Brock Pappas finished second in the discus at 147-2.

Host Ames won the team title with 140 points in the six team-event. Ankeny was second (101), MHS third (100) and Cedar Falls fourth (89). The Bobcats did not have entries in four events.

Marshalltown is at Ankeny's Fred Smith Hawk Relays on Tuesday.
