Tuesday

Mary Alexandra Valdovinos, 410 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. On the no insurance charge the charges were dismissed with court costs of $60 due immediately. The charges on the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended were downgraded to expired driver's license and she pleaded guilty and was fined $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50 due immediately.

Kathleen Ann Pitts, 311 N. 11th Ave., made an initial appearance on a theft, third degree (enhanced) charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, $26.74 restitution and $60 in court costs for a total of $299.49. due immediately.

Joshua Davis, 2306 Yates Ave., made an initial appearance on a no driver's license charge, a driving under suspension charge and a failure to obey a stop or yield sign charge. He pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving under suspension charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. The fine on the no driver's license charge was $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330 due immediately. On the failure to obey a stop or yield sign charge the fine was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195 due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning May 21 until the debt is completed on all charges.

Joleen Wanatee, 412 S. 3rd St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a aggravated domestic assault charge and three counts of a child endangerment charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Edwin Lugo, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a false report charge and a violation of a no-contact order charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing on the false reporting charge was set for 1 p.m. on May 4. The Contempt Hearing was set for 11:15 a.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $1,000 per charge for a total of $2,000 cash or surety.

Dakota Farris, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Probation Revocation Hearing is set for 11:30 a.m. on May 4. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

Daniel Patrick Jamell, 514 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on a no registration charge. The charge was dropped upon proof of registration with court costs of $60 due immediately.

Andrew Joe Branon, 413 Sharon Ave., made an initial appearance on a no registration charge. The charge was dismissed upon proof of registration with court costs of $60 due immediately.

Jovana Mendoza Avala, 2308 Maple Boulevard, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. The charge was dismissed upon proof of current license with court costs of $60 assessed, due immediately.

Lydie Hyllarie Mejia, 803 Woodbury St., made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Monday

Joshua Arcelo, 105 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief, fifth degree charge and a trespass charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 29. Bond is set at $300 cash or surety.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning May 21 until the debt is completed or in lieu of the fine and $22.75 surcharge Bushaw may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the other surcharge and court costs to be completed by Aug. 31.

Kenneth Eric McClenathan, 1302 Fairmeadows Rd., made an initial appearance on a failure to stop within a safe, assured distance charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 29. McClenathan was released on his own recognizance.

Britney Ann Thompson, 1001 Finkle Ave., made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 plus restitution if applicable due immediately.

Jacaria Echols, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The court allowed in lieu of the fine and surcharge for Echols to do 12 hours of community service plus pay the court costs to be completed by June 1. The court further ordered that Echols obtain a copy of the curfew city ordinance by the end of the day, April 23.

Arrests

On Sunday, Chad Dirks, age 38, of Grundy Center, was arrested on a warrant charging him with failure to appear. He was released on promise to appear.

On Thursday, Carl Bergmann III, age 37, of Waterloo, was arrested by Black Hawk County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with contempt of court. He is being held in lieu of bond.

On April 17, Allen Van Hauen, age 45, of Aplington, was arrested at his home and charged with domestic assault abuse. He was released on promise to appear.

On April 16, Jennifer Griggs, age 30, of Cedar Falls, was arrested at her home and charged with false reporting to law enforcement. She was released on promise to appear.

Accidents

On April 11, a vehicle driven by Tiana Boone, age 35, of Gladbrook, was eastbound on Highway 175 east of Q Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Boone vehicle was estimated at $1,600.

On April 11, a vehicle driven by Jeanette Slaughter, age 67, of Union, was northbound on F Avenue south of 190th Street when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Slaughter vehicle was estimated at $3,600.

On April 10, a vehicle driven by Crystal Weatherly, age 29, of Grundy Center, was southbound on I Avenue south of 260th Street when it went out of control on the gravel road, entered the west ditch and overturned coming to rest on its wheels. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Weatherly vehicle was estimated at $6,275.

On April 9, a car driven by Franklin Ginther, age 56, of New Providence, was eastbound on D-67 stopped at the intersection with Highway 14 when it pulled away from the stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Duane Gummert, age 62, of Holland, which was traveling south on Highway 14. No injuries were reported. Ginther was cited for driving while license was suspended and failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to the Ginther car was estimated at $600 while the Gummert vehicle received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Accidents

On Sunday, a pickup driven by an as yet unidentified driver collided with a vehicle driven by Elizabeth Sanchez, of Waterloo, at the intersection of East Olive Street and South 17th Avenue and then fled the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Sanchez vehicle received an estimated $200 in damage. A witness followed the pickup as it left the scene and watched it drive erratically, not obeying stop sign. It was observed to spin out at 12th Avenue and East Main Street before going onto the sidewalk and striking the guard rail leaving that area and pulling into a driveway in the 10 block of North 12th Avenue. Damage to the sidewalk and guard rail belonging to the City of Marshalltown was estimated at $100.

On April 18, a vehicle driven by Justine Nicole Long, 1108 Fremont St., was southbound on Ninth Street when a minivan driven by Jonathan Yepez, 204 S. 3rd Ave., pulled away from the stop sign on Church Street without yielding to the Long vehicle and collided with it and left the scene. No injuries were reported. Yepez was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended, no insurance/accident, failure to give information and aid/leaving the scene of an accident and failure to yield upon left turn. Damage to the Long vehicle was estimated at $1,800 while the Yepez minivan received an estimated $1,000 in damage.

Incidents

On April 19, James Leroy Clawson, 3231 Garwin Rd., reported damage to a sliding glass door at the residence and the theft of two Coca Cola chairs, a Budweiser sign, miscellaneous tools, a flower planter with bears, a bench and two chairs and keys to a Dodge pickup. Estimated value of loss was $2,076.

Arrests

On Sunday, Melanie Rae Bullard, of Tama, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance.

On Saturday, Gerardo Cervantes-Alvarado, 2606 Smith Ave., was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a assault/possession of a controlled substance charge, driving under suspension and possession of alcohol under legal age.

On Friday, Douglas Mark Bahl, of State Center, was arrested for failure to serve jai sentence and theft.

On Friday, Donnella Jo Fisher, 708 Union St., was arrested for violation of parole.

On Friday, Joshua Bolhot Arcelo, 105 N. 12th Ave., was arrested for trespass and criminal mischief, fifth degree.

On April 19, Darrell Demetris Glass, 1003 Jackson St., and 1407 S. 17th Ave., Halfway House, was arrested for absence from custody.

Thursday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to removal of victims from stalled elevator at 134 E. Main St., a system malfunction at 303 Nicholas Dr., and three medical assists with the EMS crew at: 1900 S. Center St., 2907 S. 6th St., and 2907 S. 6th St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a cooking fire confined to a container at 209 N. 14th Ave., a carbon monoxide detector activation/no carbon monoxide found at 2709 Arnold Dr., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 2510 S. 6th St., 2 Columbus Dr., 405 Summit St., and 624 W. Boone St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an alarm system activation/no unintentional at 1802 Campbell Dr., and five medical assists with the EMS crew at: 25510 S. 6th St., 1301 S. 6th St., 512 Sharon Ave., 501 N. 2nd St., and 702 Travis Dr.

Sunday
