Luis Ramirez, 7 E. North St., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning May 23 until the debt is completed or in lieu of the fine and surcharge Ramirez may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the court costs to be completed by Aug. 31.
Marshalltown Police Department
On Wednesday, a staffer at Miller Middle School, 125 N. 11th St., reported the theft of a HTC Desire cell phone left on a desk in the media room. Estimated value of loss was $250.
On Wednesday, an employee with Schendel Pest Control, 625 W. Lincoln Way, reported a fraudulent check in the amount of $1,318.24.
On Wednesday, Matthew August Gerstandt, 2701 W. Main St., reported the amount of $2,460 fraudulently charged to his bank account.
On Wednesday, a female juvenile from Marshalltown was cited for theft, fifth degree by concealing property at Walmart and making no attempt to pay for it.

On Wednesday, a pickup driven by Damon Clark Meadows, 901 Stegman Boulevard, was turning left from South Center Street onto Westwood Drive when, due to two pickups blocking visibility, it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Christina Eleanor Whittler, 1215 W. Main St., which had stopped to turn into the frontage road. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Meadows pickup was estimated at $5,000 while the Whittler vehicle received an estimated $3,500 in damage.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a detector activation/no fire/unintentional at 10 W. Linn St., and eight medical assists with the EMS crew to: 614 Summit St., 7 N. 5th St., 614 Summit St., West First Street, 101 NewCastle Rd., 1211 W. State St., 2710 S. 6th St., and 1211 W. State St.
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from vehicle on Highway 330, an unauthorized burning at 1800 Marion St., and 710 E. Boone St., a system malfunction at 1402 S. 17th Ave., and nine medical assists with the EMS crew to: 309 W. Boone St., 216 E. Ingledue St., 3702 S. Center St., 707 Roberts Terrace, 614 Summit St., 134 E. Main St., 915 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard, 907 W. Boone St., and 407 W. Church St.
The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 1108 W. Iowa Ave., and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 303 Nicholas Dr., and 903 N. 5th Ave.
Marshall County Sheriff's Office
On Tuesday, a car driven by Tyler Jerald Slaughter, of Ankeny, was northbound on Highway 330 when it collided with the rear of a semi driven by Gene Alfred Schwartz, of Shellsburg, which had entered the highway from Hart Avenue and was building up speed. Slaughter was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Slaughter was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the Slaughter car was estimated at $2,000 while the semi received an estimated $5,000 in damage.
