Local man threatens to kill wife

A Marshalltown man faces charges for threatening to kill his wife during a domestic assault.

According to police reports, Ashin Janita, 35, assaulted his wife by punching her in the legs, causing visible injury. During the assault he also made threats to kill her. The incident was reported to police Tuesday.

Janita is charged with serious domestic assault and third-degree harassment.

He made an initial court appearance Wednesday and was being held on a $2,000 bond. A no-contact order was issued with the victim.

12-year-old charged with assault

A 12-year-old Marshalltown boy is charged with serious assault after he hit, kicked and punched another boy at the bus stop on Monday.

According to police, the victim had cuts and bruises as a result of the fight, which occurred at 12th Avenue and State Street.

The case has been referred to juvenile court services.

Nick and Josey Vasquez, of Newton, are the parents of a son, Ezra Andrew Vasquez born March 21 at 7:12 a.m. weighing 9 pounds 6.8 ounces and measuring 21 inches long. Ezra joins big brother, Carver. Grandparents are Daniel and Sally Vasquez, of Newton, and Andy and Jenny Bledsoe, of Gladbrook. Great-grandparents are Gerald and Beth Johnson, of Marshalltown.

Paul and Karen (Miller) Major, of Oakdale, Minn., are the parents of a daughter, Olivia Fay, born April 23 at 10:27 p.m., weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Grandparents are Steve and Sharon Major, of Maplewood, Minn., and Clarence and Donna Miller, of Marshalltown.

Teina Marie Steine, of Baxter, made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge for a total of $272.75 due immediately plus restitution if applicable.

Isidro Garcia Jr., 410 Melody Lane Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Owen Russel Meyer, 1407 S. 7th Ave. Apt. #107, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge, a no insurance charge and a operation without registration charge. He pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and the no insurance charge the fine was $250 each with a $87.50 surcharge on each and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each due immediately. The fine on the operation without registration was $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50 due immediately.

Jonatan Yepez, 204 S. 3rd Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge, a failure to yield upon left turn charge, a failure to give information or aid/leaving the scene of an accident charge and a no insurance/accident charge. He pleaded guilty to all charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. The fine on the failure to yield upon left turn charge was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195 due immediately. On the no insurance/accident charge the fine was $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735 due immediately. The fine on the failure to give information or aid/leaving the scene of an accident charge was $100 with a $35 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $195.

Lavotius Ross, 407 W. Main St. Apt. #302, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 16. Ross was released on his own recognizance.

Melanie Marie Mendoza, 706 Summit St., made an initial appearance on a dark windows charge. She pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 29.

Leopoldo Salvador Reyes, 409 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on three counts of a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 29. Reyes was released on his own recognizance.

Juan Carlos Amaya, 210 S. 13th St., made an initial appearance on a speeding charge and a no insurance charge. On the speeding charge he pleaded guilty and was fined $40 with a $14 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $114 due immediately. The no insurance charge was dismissed upon proof of insurance with court costs of $60 due immediately.

Skoky Gene Strohm, of Albion, made an initial appearance on a destroy/alter a vehicle identification charge, a theft, second degree charge, a driving under suspension charge, a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended/non-payment charge, a improper lights charge, a no insurance charge and a improper use of registration charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 7. Bond is set at $5,000 cash only.

On Thursday, Catherine Jo Rush, 1209 Rolling Meadows Rd., reported $263.71 fraudulently charged to her bank account.

On Thursday, Nancy Loretta Romero, 114 N. 1st Ave. Apt. #1, reported damage to a five foot by three foot double paned window at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $300.
